Sena MLAs Moved To Unknown Hotel Ahead of Rajya Sabha polls On June 10

Mumbai: Shiv Sena has moved a group of its MLAs and some independent candidates to an unknown hotel ahead of the Maharashtra Rajya Sabha polls for six seats.

The MLAs boarded two luxury buses after a meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prevent the possibility of horse-trading by the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the elections.

According to NDTV, Thackeray held a meeting with independent MLAs and party people on Monday.

Two buses were seen parked in front of the Sahyadri Guest House, the official guest house of the Maharashtra government. The MLAs are likely to be taken to Hotel Retreat in Malad, which is located in the western suburbs of Mumbai.

The BJP has fielded three candidates — Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mahadik — for the six seats in the state. The party has 106 members in the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly.

From the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) camp, Shiv Sena has fielded two, Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP one candidate each. Congress has fielded Imran Pratapgarhi, Shiv Sena has re-nominated Sanjay Raut and Sanjay Pawar and NCP have re-nominated Praful Patel. Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress have 56, 53 and 44 MLAs respectively in the assembly.

The BJP had rejected the MVA’s proposal for an additional seat to avoid elections. In such a situation, the big fight for the sixth seat will be between Dhananjay Mahadik of the saffron party and Sanjay Pawar of Shiv Sena.

The NCP had recently approached the court seeking permission to vote in the elections for its two jailed MLAs Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik. Malik has sought one day’s bail to vote in the elections. Meanwhile, the MVA has called a meeting of its MLAs in Mumbai on June 7.

Earlier in the day, the BJP in Rajasthan moved its MLAs to a resort in Jaipur for a ‘training camp’, days after the ruling Congress made a similar move. The MLAs were taken to the resort in two buses on Monday afternoon from the BJP office.
