Mumbai: Taking a dig at the opposition Union Home Mr Amit Shah, he challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to “find a provision in the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)” which can take citizenship for any Indian.
Addressing a public meeting here, Shah said, “I challenge Mamata Banerjee and Rahul Baba to find a provision in the Citizenship Amendment Act, which can take away citizenship from anyone in this country.”
Attacking the Congress party further, he said: “When the country was divided, the Congress party divided the country on the basis of religion.”
He said that the then leaders had assured minority citizenship from Pakistan to Indian citizenship.
“Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains who lived in both East and West Pakistan wanted to come here, but they stayed there due to the bloodshed. The leaders of our country then assured them that they would be welcomed here and they will be given citizenship. Whenever they come, “Shah said.
Taking a dig at the Congress for opposing the CAA, he said: “At the time of partition, there were 30 per cent Hindus in both East and West Pakistan. Today only 3 per cent Hindus in Pakistan and 7 per cent Hindus in East.
Pakistan (Bangladesh ). I want to ask the blind and deaf Congress leaders where my Hindu, Sikh, Sindhi brothers are. ”
The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 grants citizenship from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
