Shah Did Not Answer Questions On CAA In Parliament, Now Challenging Rahul Gandhi For Debate: Chidambaram

Mumbai: Congress senior leader P Chidambaram lashed out on Union Home Minister Amit Shah for not answering a single question on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the parliament and sadi now he (Shah) wants to challenge Rahul Gandhi for a debate on it.

Chidambaram said, “Amit Shah should go back and listen to the debate in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. He did not answer a single question and now he is challenging Rahul Gandhi to debate everything is wrong about this law.”

“This is an important moment in India’s history. The Citizenship Amendment Bill was approved by the Union Cabinet on 8 December. On 9 December they introduced it in the Lok Sabha and passed it at 12 noon. On 11 December, they introduced it in the Rajya Sabha. Introduced. Sabha. In the Constituent Assembly, members discussed the citizenship bill for two months and the current government passed the bill in three days, ” he said.

Chidambaram further said that many people have taken to the streets to protest against the law.

He said, “Thousands of students and youth came on the streets. Most of the people who come on the streets are Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Dalits and Adivasis.”

“This is a struggle that people believe they are Indians. Everyone has got many identities, but one big identity is that we are all Indians and everyone is the same in India. CAA destroys the basis of our Constitution if they said that they would have amended the Constitution with a two-thirds majority in Parliament.”
