Mumbai: Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has been recalled to the Indian team for the five-match T20I series against England, marking his return after a 15-month hiatus.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the All India Men’s Senior Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on January 11.
Shami, who last played in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, will make his comeback on January 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata—his home ground.Star all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has also earned a spot after impressing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
However, Riyan Parag was not considered due to ongoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel has replaced Vidarbha stumper-batter Jitesh Sharma, with Sanju Samson expected to be the first-choice wicketkeeper and opener alongside Abhishek Sharma
.An all-rounder-heavy squad has been chosen, featuring Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Rana. India’s bowling attack includes pacers Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Shami, while spinners Ravi Bishnoi, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy complete the lineup.
