‘Shardul Batted Better Than Me For A While, Faf Recalls 2018 IPL Qualifier

Mumbai: Many of us might remember the small Cameo of Shardul Thakur from the 2018 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad which turned the match towards Chennai Super Kings.

Recalling Thakur’s innings, former South Africa captain and Chennai Super Kings batsman Faf du Plessis revealed that he felt that Shardul Thakur was just a tail-ender player and would be dismissed early in the match.

In the 2018 IPL qualifier, CSK were chasing a small 140 when they were bowled out for 62 for 6 by the Hyderabad bowlers.

However, du Plessis’s brilliant innings pushed CSK closer to the target. But, the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were piled on for 113 runs at the loss of eight wickets.

This was when Shardul came to bat at number 10 and started his side at the line scoring 15 runs off just five balls.

Du Plessis said, “We were in a lot of trouble when we lost all our wickets. It’s one of those games where you hope you can do something great, but it goes a long way, said du Plessis in a video posted on the CSK YouTube channel.

“But the guy who came in, I remember Shardul was incredible. I never saw him bat before, so he came in and I was probably going to be a tail-ender. He’s going to hit one and then he’s gonna get out. But he batted better than me for a while. He was incredible! “Recalled du Plessis.

CSK defeated SRH by two wickets in the game. CSK, in the 2018 IPL final, again defeated SRH to clinch their third IPL trophy.
