Sheena Chohan on Character Transformations, Acting Process and Her Upcoming Film Jhatasya Maranam Dhruvam

Mumbai: Sheena Chohan has been steadily making her presence felt across Indian cinema with performances that span diverse genres, characters and emotional worlds. Rather than limiting herself to conventional roles, the pan-India actress has gravitated towards characters that demand research, preparation and significant emotional investment.
From historical personalities and supernatural characters to complex, emotionally isolated women and police officers, Sheena’s approach to acting revolves around understanding the character before stepping into it. For her, the process begins well before the camera starts rolling.
In a conversation, Sheena Chohan opened up about her approach to character preparation, acting, transformation and choosing challenging roles, while also speaking about her upcoming film Jhatasya Maranam Dhruvam.
Q. How do you prepare yourself before portraying a challenging character?
“For me, preparation always starts with curiosity. I spend time researching the character, the period, the world they belong to and the emotional circumstances that shape them. I combine that research with script work and my own personal observations. At the same time, I believe in allowing the director’s vision to guide me. Finding that balance between being thoroughly prepared and knowing when to surrender to the creative process is extremely important to me.”
Q. You have portrayed characters that are very different from one another. What kind of roles excite you now?
“I’m naturally drawn to characters that are complex, layered and deeply human. I want roles that challenge me as an actor and require genuine transformation rather than simply relying on glamour. I would love to continue bridging the space between commercial and independent cinema, bringing authenticity, emotional depth and relatability to every character. Whether it is a mainstream Bollywood project or a bold independent story, I want the character to leave an impact.”
Q. What can audiences expect from your upcoming film Jhatasya Maranam Dhruvam?
“In Jhatasya Maranam Dhruvam, I play a lady cop, which is another completely new avatar for me. I’m really excited for audiences to see this side of me. Every character takes me into a world that I haven’t experienced before, and that discovery is what makes acting so exciting for me.”
Sheena Chohan Embraces Diverse Characters
With Jhatasya Maranam Dhruvam expected to release theatrically around September–October, Sheena Chohan continues to explore roles across genres, languages and contrasting emotional landscapes.
Her filmography reflects an actor who is willing to move beyond familiar territory and embrace characters that demand a different kind of preparation. From portraying women rooted in history to supernatural and mysterious characters, an emotionally isolated artist and now a determined police officer, Sheena’s approach remains centred on research, observation and emotional understanding.
For Sheena Chohan, transformation does not begin when the camera starts rolling. It begins much earlier—with curiosity, preparation, research and imagination. She also believes in arriving on set as a blank page, allowing the director’s vision to shape the performance while maintaining professionalism and discipline throughout the process.
As she takes on newer challenges, Sheena Chohan’s upcoming films and acting projects are expected to showcase another side of her versatility. Her emphasis on character-driven storytelling and willingness to experiment could further strengthen her position as an actor exploring diverse narratives across Indian cinema.
