Shiv Sena Moves SC Seeking Suspension Of Maharashtra CM, 15 Rebel MLAs

Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu has moved the Supreme Court seeking suspension of Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and 15 rebel MLAs till the decision on their disqualification is taken.

Shiv Sena Chief Whip Sunil Prabhu has demanded the suspension of newly-elected Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and 15 more rebel MLAs against whom disqualification petitions have been filed, till a final decision on their disqualification is taken.

The plea has sought “to prevent him from entering the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly or from taking part in any proceedings relating to the House till the final decision of the disqualification proceedings against him”.

“To ensure that the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution is not rendered toothless and the defectors enjoying the fruits of the defection while the hands of the Deputy Speaker are tied,” the plea states.

The disqualification notices were earlier issued to 16 rebel MLAs by state Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Narhari Zirwal.

Meanwhile, Rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde took oath as Maharashtra CM on Thursday, whereas BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Deputy CM of the state.
