Shiv Sena Sought Congress’ Help Even In 2014, Prithviraj Chavan Exposes Sena

Mumbai: In a huge revelation, Congress senior leader Prithviraj Chavan has claimed that Shiv Sena had sought Congress’ help even in 2014.

His statement comes after the backdrop of visible disagreements between Shiv Sena and Congress over critical issues such as Savarkar and the recent war-of-words over Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s claims that Indira Gandi met underworld don, Karim Lala.

“A similar situation arose in 2014. Nevertheless, Shiv Sena and NCP approached me to form a coalition government to stop the BJP. I immediately rejected the offer and said that winning and losing is normal in politics “Even in the past. We lost the election and sat in the opposition,” Chavan said in an interview with news agency PTI.

Chavan alleged that Devendra Fadnavis tried to ‘kill the opposition’, which was the main reason behind supporting the Shiv Sena in 2019. “In the meantime, efforts were made to destroy democracy. Around 40 MLAs of Congress and NCP were made to change sides. Chavan said people were blackmailed and lured with the offer of government posts … Another word for BJP will destroy democracy completely.

Earlier, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had sparked a major controversy when he claimed that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had met underworld don, Karim Lala. Raut later withdrew his statement after Congress leaders apologized to him.

The Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) formed the government in Maharashtra after the alliance with the BJP established an unusual alliance. However, the contradictions within the three ideologically different parties have been seen through their positions on various issues such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Savarkar and others.
