Shiv Sena Will Contest 50-100 Seats In UP Polls: Sanjay Raut

Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday, January 12 announced that Shiv Sena will contest 50-100 seats in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Also Read: Cong MLA Naresh Saini, Ex-SP MLA Dharmpal Yadav Join BJP Ahead Of UP Polls

According to ANI, Raut also said that he will visit West Uttar Pradesh (UP) on Thursday.

“I will be visiting western Uttar Pradesh tomorrow,” Raut added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Raut had praised Swami Prasad Maurya after resigning as a minister in the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh.

“It is said about him (Maurya) that he anticipates aptly the direction of flowing wind in politics. When he is joining the Samajwadi Party, it means that it can be expected that BJP is not going to come back to power in Uttar Pradesh,” Raut said.

It is not clear whether the Shiv Sena intends to contest the elections in alliance with any other party. No such announcement has been made yet. It has also not been told which seats the party wants to focus on.

Meanwhile, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said that his party will fight the Uttar Pradesh elections together with the Samajwadi Party and other smaller parties.

Elections for the 403 seat UP Assembly will be held in seven phases between February and March. Polls will be held in 58 seats in the first phase on February 10 and in 55 in the second phase on February 14. Results will be declared on March 10.
