Shops To Open On Odd-Even Basis From Monday, Metro To Run At 50% Capacity: Delhi CM

Mumbai: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said the lockdown imposed since April 19 to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the national capital will continue, but announced some relaxations.

Kejriwal said that local markets in the national capital can open on an odd and even basis and malls can also resume their business but they will have to follow the same guidelines. Standalone shops can open throughout the day.

Private offices will be allowed to function with 50% staff. Kejriwal said that Group A employees of government offices will be allowed to work with 100 per cent and Group B employees with 50 per cent.

According to the Chief Minister, Delhi Metro services will also resume with 50% capacity.

On the preparedness for a possible third wave of the pandemic, the Chief Minister said that Delhi is ready to face the next wave of COVID-19.

“We have set up a pediatric task force,” he announced, referring to concerns that children may be at greater risk of catching the virus in the third wave.

CM Kejriwal said, ‘With the third wave of Kovid-19, 420 tonnes of oxygen storage capacity is being created. We have also spoken to Indraprastha Gas Limited to produce 150 tonnes of oxygen.”

In the last few days, the COVID-19 situation in Delhi has improved significantly and the number of daily cases has come down below the 1,000 marks. At the peak of the second wave, it was close to 30,000. It recorded 28,395 cases on April 20 and a positivity rate of over 36% on April 22.

In view of the dip in daily infections, the Delhi government began the unlocking process last week and allowed manufacturing and construction activities.

On Friday, Delhi recorded 523 fresh Covid-19 cases and 50 fatalities. The positivity rate stood at 0.68%, according to the daily bulletin by the health department.
