Siddaramaiah Raises Doubts About EVMs’ Credibility

Mumbai: As exit polls have declared ruling party BJP will retain power in Maharashtra and Haryana, its rivals, led by the Congress, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday expressed suspicion about the credibility of the Electronic Voting Machines.

The exit polls varied widely in their projection of seats for rival alliances, but there was no doubt about a convincing victory for the BJP-led NDA in both states with more than two-thirds of the seats.

Talking to reporters in Hubballi, the senior Congress leader said that he had gone by road from Solapur to Hyderabad when he went to Maharashtra for campaigning and the condition of the road was “pathetic”, despite Nitin Gadkari, who was on the road transport.

He said that there has been no development in five years. Siddaramaiah said, “People don’t know how people are voting them. I don’t know.”

He said, “I don’t know why BJP (BJP is winning), they are misusing EVMs – I feel … Election Commission of India is under them and according to their instructions of CBI and ED Is being abused.”

Pitching for the ballot paper process, he claimed that many developed countries went back into the system.
When people have expressed doubts, why do you (BJP) want EVMs? He said that when all parties have expressed doubt, the Election Commission has to make a decision.

He said, “The results will come on October 24, we have to accept the public mandate. I don’t know what kind of decision they will give.”

Alleging that the BJP was misusing the Election Commission, Siddaramaiah said that the Election Commission announced calendar events for the by-elections in Karnataka from December 5, but the Code of Conduct was not implemented immediately.

What do you call him? What conclusion can one draw? He said that the Election Commission is working as per the instructions of the Central Government.

The bypass for 15 of the 17 seats represented by unqualified legislators, whose resignation and absence of a confidence vote led to the fall of the Congress-JD (S) coalition government, and the code of conduct will come into force on 5 December and 11 December.

Siddaramaiah also attacked the BJP government led by BS Yeddyurappa in the state and accused it of failing to provide proper relief to the people affected by the recent floods in the state.
