Sidhu To Contest From Amritsar East, Channi From Chamkaur Sahib In Punjab Polls

Mumbai: Congress on Saturday released its list of 86 candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections and fielded CM Charanjit Singh Channi from Chamkaur Sahib SC and state party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu from Amritsar East.

Deputy Chief Ministers Sukhjinder Randhawa and Om Prakash Soni have been fielded from Dera Baba Nanak seat and Amritsar (Central) respectively.

Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala has been fielded from Mansa seat and actor Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood has been fielded from Moga seat.

Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Singh Bajwa will contest from Kadian, while Mohit, son of Minister of State Brahm Mohindra, has been given a ticket from Patiala (Rural) seat.

Currently, Channi represents Chamkaur Sahib seat only in the Punjab Legislative Assembly and Sidhu is also an MLA from Amritsar (East).

The list of candidates was finalized during the second round of the Congress Party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting this week.

Punjab will vote in a single phase on February 14 to elect 117 members of the state assembly and the results will be declared on March 10.

In the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, the Congress party emerged victorious as it won 77 of the 117 seats, while the AAP emerged as the second-largest party, bagging 20 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party managed to bag just three seats and the SAD won 15.
