Mumbai: Union Minister Smriti Irani said on Saturday that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Hathras visit is a political strategy today with no intention of bringing justice to the victim’s family.
Speaking to the media, Irani said, “People are aware of the strategy of the Congress and that is why they have ensured a historic victory for the BJP in the 2019 elections. People understand that their (Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi) visit to Hathras for their politics Is. Not for him. Justice for the victim.”
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra decided to visit Hathras village on Thursday to meet the family members of the 19-year-old Hathras incident victim. He was intercepted by the Uttar Pradesh Police and detained hundreds of Congress workers with Gandhism for breaking state laws that prevented public movement during the pandemic.
On October 1, Smriti Irani’s remarks came in response to Rahul Gandhi’s misbehavior by UP police near the Agra-Yamuna Expressway.
The 19-year-old woman died on 29 September at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. All the four accused in the Hathras incident have been arrested.
