Smriti Mandhana Wins ICC Women’s Cricketer Of The Year Award For The Second Time

Mumbai: India Women batter Smriti Mandhana has won the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award for being the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year for 2021. Also Read: Babar Azam Named ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of 2021

The 25-year-old scored 855 runs in 22 international matches in 2021 at an average of 38.86 with one century and five half-centuries. Also Read: Joe Root Named ICC Men’s Test Cricketer Of 2021

She scored an unbeaten 80 as India chased down 158 in the second ODI to help level the series and scored an unbeaten 48 in the final T20I win. She played a crucial knock of 49 runs in India’s only win in the ODI series. Her 15-ball 29 and half-centuries in the T20I series went in vain, though India lost both the matches and went on to lose the series 2-1.

Mandhana was in good shape in the series against Australia, starting with the ODI series where she scored 86 runs in the second ODI. She scored a scintillating century in the only Test (the first of his career) and was awarded the Player of the Match. She scored his second T20I half-century of the year in the final T20I, though India fell short and lost the series 2–0.

Mandhana made India’s first pink-ball Test even more memorable by scoring her maiden century in the longest format. The left-hander played her natural game at the start and scored a run-a-ball half-century, playing carefully under the lights.

Mandhana was caught for 80 but was relieved after Ellyse Perry overstepped. She made the most of the lifeline, completing his maiden Test century in style with a boundary. Her innings finally ended on 127 after putting India in a strong position.

The match ended in a draw, and Mandhana was declared the Player of the Match.
