‘Some People Work As BJP’s Mouthpiece, Mamata On President’s Rule In Maharashtra

Mumbai: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said some people in constitutional posts are acting like BJP mouthpieces in an apparent dig at governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari for recommending President’s rule in Maharashtra. These people wish to run a parallel administration in some states, she said.

Referring to the president rule in Maharashtra Mamta said, “There are some people who are working as a BJP mouthpiece. In my state also you have seen people trying to run a parallel government.”

“They should not supersede the central government. The Centre must take care of this,” she said.

In West Bengal, governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has been at loggerheads with the ruling Trinamul Congress on various issues. The central and state governments are elected by the people and the federal structure must work as per the Constitution, she said.

“They (governments) should be allowed to work,” the chief minister said.

“As per the Constitutional provisions, the federal structure must work. Centre and state governments are elected governments, but there are some people who are dominating it so much,” she further added.

This statement was after imposing the president rule, before this the winning alliance were given the 20 days almost to form the government but they couldn’t.

The decision to impose the rule came after the Union Cabinet recommended President’s Rule in the state. President Ramnath Govind signed and imposed the president rule after the government was in suspension position to form a government.

The governor noted that he is satisfied that governance of the state cannot be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and he is left with no alternative and is constrained to send a report on the provision of Article 356.

Later she alleged that the government had to suffer the loss of 640 crores till the October, “As the Centre didn’t release devolution component (Central Tax 42%) till October we suffered a loss of Rs 640 crores. Moreover, the Centre is supposed to release Rs 17,000 crores which the state is yet to receive. Economic growth is so low that every state is suffering,” she said.
