Somebody Threw A Ball At Siraj: Rishabh Pant On Why Virat Kohli Was Upset With Crowd

Mumbai: India wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has revealed that captain Virat Kohli was upset with the crowd during the first day of the Leeds Test against England because someone threw a ball at pacer Mohammed Siraj.

Pant revealed the incident made India skipper Virat Kohli “upset”. “I think, somebody threw a ball inside, at Siraj, so he [Kohli] was upset,” said Pant in a virtual press conference after the close of the first day’s play.

“You can say whatever you want to chant, but don’t throw things at the fielders and all those things. It is not good for cricket, I guess,” he added.

In the third session of the first day of the third Test, a section of the audience asked Siraj the score of the match to tease the fast bowler. However, the India pacer gave a brilliant reply as he pointed the crowd 1-0 (India leading the Test series).

Coming back into the game, after India were bundled out for 78, openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed ensured that England won the honours on the first day of the ongoing third Test.

England’s score at stumps is 120/0 and the hosts have taken a 42-run lead. Burns (52*) and Hameed (60*) are currently unbeaten at the crease for the Three Lions.

Talking about the pitch on day one, Pant said, “He took a heavy roller, the wicket was too frozen, and he batted well too,” he said. “But when we batted, the wicket was a bit soft, and he bowled in good areas, but we could have applied [ourselves] better.”

Both England batsmen managed to see off the final session and the hosts concluded the opening day with all ten wickets intact, extending the lead to 42.
