Something Wrong With Pakistan’s Cricket System: Misbah-ul-Haq

Mumbai: Pakistan’s head coach Misbah-ul-Haq says that the humiliation of losing 0-3 in a T20 series against Sri Lanka has come from the fact that there is something wrong with the country’s cricket system.

“This series has been an eye-opener for us and everyone else. These same players have been around for some time. They are more or less the same team that made us number one and have been playing together for almost three to four years now. ” Misbah said after Pakistan lost the third and final T20I in Lahore on Wednesday.

“The result of the series is also eye-opening for our system. If we could lose from one side without our main players then how did we feel we were number one,” he said.

He said that Sri Lanka kept their side in all the departments of the game.

“We were poor and were not even equal in all three departments against them. Sri Lanka beat us in every department, it was almost a one-sided series.”

The head coach said that “Yes, I take responsibility for the series defeat. It is very disappointing and we played poorly. But this is the same team which made us number one. Same players who have been playing for around three years.

“If you want to blame me, fine. I have been just 10 days on the job and yes about changes, I asked a right-hand batsman to start batting left-handed and told a left-hand bowler to start bowling right-hand, right,” he said.

Misbah was also devastated when a journalist asked him about a poor performance by captain and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed, who dropped catches and missed stumping opportunities.

He said, “Yes, only the wicketkeeper is not playing well, the remaining 10 players are also doing well.”

Asked what was wrong with the batting and why he struggled against the spin, Misbah commented: “This is an eye-opener for us and should be one for you (media) as well. Now before you write He needs to think. Without considering his previous performances.

“Shoaib Malik and Muhammad Hafeez are our most experienced players and play spin very well. Our youngsters face spinners very well but face problems against spinners, wrist spinners.”
