Son Booked In Father’s Murder Case

Mumbai: The accidental death report filed after the death of 50-year-old Wadala man in June has turned out to be a murder case on the basis of the post-mortem report.

Initially, Police said on June 15, Mahendra Nivate, a resident of Shiv Shankar Nagar, Wadala East, was rushed to King Edward Memorial Hospital with serious head injuries. “The family told the hospital staff that Nivate fell inside the bathroom under the influence of alcohol and injured himself. Initially, doctors believed them and began Nivate’s treatment,” said a Wadala police officer.

As Nivate was admitted to the ICU with skull injuries, he was unable to speak and police could not record his statement. On July 10, doctors informed the police that Nivate had died following internal bleeding.

Wadala police, which had registered the accidental death report, then sent the body for a post-mortem. The post-mortem report released a week later, stated the head injury was caused by “hard and blunt impact in an alleged case of fall at home.

On being questioned by the police, Nivate’s son confessed to killing his father. On that day, his father came home drunk and tried to hit and abuse his mother. The teen said in a fit of rage, he hit his father with a cricket bat on his head.

When he fell unconscious, he and his mother bundled up Nivate in a taxi and rushed him to KEM Hospital.
“We arrested the son under IPC sections 302 for murder and 201 for the destruction of evidence and produced him before the juvenile court. He has been sent to juvenile custody,” said an officer.
