Mumbai: After the huge political drama in the Indian National Congress (INC), now it has been decided in the CWC meeting that Sonia Gandhi will continue as interim president of the party for some months.
Sonia Gandhi, who took office after the Lok Sabha elections last year, had earlier expressed her desire to step down. She had requested party leaders to replace him with a second president.
Even when Sonia Gandhi wanted to step down as Congress chief, the party urged her to continue as the party’s interim chief in times of leadership crisis.
Earlier, 23 Congress leaders wrote to Sonia demanding a change in organizational structure and leadership. During the CWC meeting, Rahul Gandhi allegedly lambasted the letter writers and also indicated that the letter had written “collusion with BJP”
However, the Congress rejected reports that the former Congress president had “not said a word of that nature nor asked for it.”
