Sonia Gandhi Wins Rae Bareli Seat For 5th Time In A Row

Mumbai: UPA President, Sonia Gandhi, defeated BJP’s Dinesh Pratap Singh by a margin of 1.67 lakh votes and won the by-election for the fifth time in Rae Bareli.

In 2014, she defeated Ajay Agarwal of BJP by nearly 3.52 lakh votes. She became the first MP from Amethi constituency in 1999.

Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination papers on April 11 for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. During the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, on May 6, the vote was cast.

In order to avoid the split of votes in the opposition camp, the General Body of the Alliance, Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party and National Lok Dal have not fielded their candidate from Rae Bareli.

During the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, there were 1,594, 954 registered voters in Rae Bareli – out of which 857,875 were male and 737,079 were women.

In 2014, Sonia Gandhi defeated BJP’s Ajay Agarwal by getting 63.80% votes cast in this constituency. In the case of the number of votes, the difference of victory was 352,713. Voted over 1,659 polling booths of Rae Bareli.
