The economic crisis intensified on Sunday after all 26 ministers in Rajapaksa’s cabinet stepped down, allowing him to induct new faces. The move comes after thousands of people violated a weekend curfew on Sunday to protest across the island demanding the removal of the Rajapaksa family amid growing public outcry.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan central bank governor Ajit Nivard Cabral also submitted his resignation on Monday, Reuters reported. Amid the crisis, Sri Lanka’s president invited all political parties in the country to join a ‘unity government’ to find a solution, according to the AFP news agency.
