Stampede Breaks Out At Bandra Railway Station In Mumbai, 9 Injured

Mumbai: Nine people were injured, with two critically hurt, in a stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra railway station in the early hours of Sunday. The incident occurred as crowds surged to board the weekly train heading to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, ahead of the Diwali holiday.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the stampede was triggered by an intense festive rush. Train number 22921, scheduled to depart for Gorakhpur, was delayed, causing passengers to gather in large numbers on platform 1. By 3 a.m., an overwhelming crowd had amassed, and in the rush to secure seats in the general compartment, chaos ensued.

Disturbing visuals from the scene showed bloodstains on the floor as injured passengers received assistance from Railway Police personnel and fellow travelers. One video captured a Railway Police officer carrying an injured passenger on his shoulder. In another, two men with blood-stained clothing lay on the platform as stretcher-bearers rushed to help.

Eyewitnesses reported makeshift measures to help the injured, including the use of a large cloth as a stretcher. One man, visibly in pain with his shirt torn, sat on a bench awaiting medical attention.

The injured were transported to Bhabha Hospital, where their conditions were assessed. Seven victims are currently stable, while two remain in critical condition. According to hospital sources, one individual suffered a spinal fracture, and others sustained leg fractures. Two patients have since been discharged.

The BMC reported that the situation at Bandra station is now under control, with authorities continuing to monitor and manage the crowd.
