Star India Wins IPL TV Rights For ₹23,575 Cr, Viacom18 Bags Digital Rights For ₹23,758 Cr

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the culmination of a record-breaking e-auction of media rights for the 2023-27 cycle of the Indian Premier League. In deals of Rs. 48,390.52 crore; Star Sports, Viacom18 and Times Internet emerged as the big winners.

Disneystar has retained the digital rights for an amount of Rs. 23,575 crores while Viacom 18 has won the digital and non-exclusive rights for Rs. 20,500 and Rs. 3,258 crores. Times Internet and Viacom have acquired overseas rights. 1,057 crores.

The Indian Premier League confirmed new deals and welcomed their new partners with a tweet saying, “Thank you,@StarSportsIndia for renewing the partnership! Welcome on-board @viacom18 and @TimesInternet. This is just the start of a promising 5-year journey. We can’t wait to get going”.

Reacting to the record-breaking deal, BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote, “Viacom18 bags digital rights with its winning bid of Rs 23,758 cr. India has seen a digital revolution & the sector has endless potential. The digital landscape has changed the way cricket is watched. It has been a big factor in the growth of the game & the Digital India vision.”

“I congratulate Viacome18 for winning Aus, SA, UK, Times have got MENA & US, who win the Rest of the World Rights. The IPL is as popular outside India as it is here and the viewers will be able to enjoy top-class cricket.”

“I thank all the bidders for their active interest in securing the IPL Media Rights. As a key stakeholder, the BCCI will do everything possible to help you realise the full value of your investments,” he added.

“The BCCI will utilize the revenue generated from IPL to strengthen our domestic cricket structure starting from grassroots, to boost infrastructure and spruce up facilities across India and enrich the overall cricket-watching experience,” he said.

Now, it’s time for our state associations, IPL Franchises to work together with the IPL to enhance the fan experience and ensure that our biggest stakeholder – ‘the cricket fan’ is well looked after and enjoys high quality cricket in world-class facilities,” Shah tweeted further.

The TV and digital rights were secured on Monday, at a whopping ₹23,575 crore ( ₹57.5 crore per game) and ₹20,500 crore (50 crore per game), with the combined amount reading a gobsmacking ₹44,075 crore for 410 matches, which further swelled by another ₹4315 core, after more money was spent on Package C and D, details of which are yet to emerge.
