“Statement Has Hurt Their Feelings,”: Fadnavis On Sanjay Raut’s Remarks On Doctors

Mumbai: Senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday about Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s alleged remarks on doctors that he had hurt the sentiments of the medical fraternity.

Fadnavis also reiterated his demands to speed up COVID-19 testing to investigate the spread of viral infections and to establish medium-sized COVID care centers instead of jumbo facilities.

Asked about the remarks made by Raut while speaking to a regional channel on the “knowledge” of the doctors, Fadnavis said, “I don’t know how he made that statement.”

“But, I think it is not fair to make such statements in the midst of the COVID scenario. Our doctors are working really hard. They are risking their lives and working day and night for us. This statement has hurt their feelings,” Fadnavis told reporters.

His statement comes after Sanjay Raut in a regional channel interview Raut had blamed WHO for the spread of coronavirus and said compounders know better than doctors.

Fadnavis stressed the need to increase the number of tests including beds in hospitals in Nagpur and strengthen health facilities.

The Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly said, “During my visits to various cities in Maharashtra and to other places in the country, I have noticed that the jumbo centers do not serve the purpose in the way that the COVID centers do.”

The COVID-19 case in Nagpur district was 13,990 on August 16, according to district officials.
