States Must Strictly Enforce Lockdown; Legal Action Against Violators: Government

Mumbai: Asking states to strictly enforce the lockdown amid the outbreak of coronavirus, the government said legal action would be taken against those who violated the coronavirus lockdown.

According to ICMR, the number of cases in the country increased to 415.

A tweet by PIB Principal Director General KS Dhatwalia said, “States have been asked to strictly enforce the areas where the declaration is made. Legal action will be taken against the violators.”

This comes an hour after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the public to take the lockdown seriously and urged the state government to ensure that rules and laws are followed.

The central and state governments have decided to completely close 75 districts across the country where coronavirus cases have been reported. Government officials have also decided to suspend interstate bus services by 31 March.

The districts where the lockout was announced include Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

The development comes into view that there is an urgent need to extend restrictions including the movement of non-essential passenger transport to prevent the spread of the deadly infection that has already infected around 400 people in the country.
