Strongly Feel Indira Gandhi Was His Follower: Grandson Defends Savarkar Bharat Ratna Row

Mumbai: In a political row between BJP demanding Bharat Ratna for VD Savarkar, the grandson of the Hindutva ideology has defended his grandfather and even said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was his follower.

“Indira Gandhi honored Veer Savarkar. I strongly feel she was his follower because she brought Pakistan to its knees, strengthened the army and foreign relations, she also did nuclear tests,” Veer Savarkar’s grandson Ranjeet Savarkar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, he also lambasted on AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi for opposing the demand and asked THE AIMIM president Savarkar and keep religion in the house. “Owaisi should follow Savarkar’s belief that when you are out, you are not Hindu or Muslim but an Indian.”

He told ANI that Savarkar expected all people entering Parliament to exclude their caste, religion, gender, etc. Ranjit Savarkar said, “You will not find a more secular person than Savarkar.”

This came a day after senior Congress leader and former PM Manmohan Singh said that the Congress was not in favor of and patronizing Savarkar.

Manmohan Singh, however, noted that Indira Gandhi as prime minister had issued a postal stamp in Savarkar’s memory.
