Studies Show Hospitalisation Chances 75-80% Less In Those Who Got COVID Vaccine: Govt

The government informed that at present there are 513 districts where the COVID-19 positivity rate is less than 5 percent

Mumbai: NITI Aayog Member Dr. VK Paul on Friday said that the studies have shown that chances of hospitalization are 75-80% less in individuals vaccinated against COVID-19.

If a person is vaccinated the possibility of a COVID-positive individual needing oxygen support is around 8 per cent and the risk of ICU admission is only 6 per cent, Dr. Paul said.

Addressing the press conference of the ministry, Dr. VK Paul, Member (Health) of NITI Aayog said that in rural areas, the seropositivity rate is 56 per cent among people below 18 years and 63 per cent among people above 18 years.

The information suggests that the children were infected but it was very mild. Paul said that during the third wave of coronavirus, there may be only a few cases of infection in children.

To substantiate his claim, the NITI Aayog member cited a survey conducted by WHO-AIIMS, which showed that seropositivity is almost the same among persons below 18 years and above.

The survey found that the seropositivity rate is 67 per cent in persons above 18 and 59 per cent in those who are below the 18 age group. In urban areas, it is 78 per cent in persons below 18 and 79 per cent in above 18, Dr paul added.

It said the total active COVID-19 cases recorded a decline of around 78.6 per cent since the peak on May 10. The government further said that daily new coronavirus infections have declined by about 85 percent since the highest reported peak on May 7.
