Supreme Court Grants Protection From Arrest To Nupur Sharma Till August 10

Mumbai: The Supreme Court granted interim relief to suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma against whom multiple FIRs were filed for her remark on Prophet Muhammad.

The apex court granted protection from arrest to Nupur and directed no coercive action should be taken against her till the next hearing on August 10.

The court said the same applies to any complaint or FIR to be lodged against him in future.

Advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for Sharma, said there was a serious threat to his life, referring to the recent arrests of people in Bihar and provocative remarks against them.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and Pardiwala, while pronouncing the order also took note of the viral statement about the murder of petitioner Salman Chishti.

The bench issued notice to the Center and the states where the FIR has been registered to find out the modalities of providing protection against death threats.

The order has come after Nupur Sharma filed a plea seeking to stay on her possible arrest and club nine cases filed against her across India.
