Sushma Talked About Empowerment, The First Six Women Cabinet Ministers Of Modi Government

Mumbai: One of the most significant achievements of the Modi government, which had missed the entire Lok Sabha elections in 2019, was the fact that there are six women cabinet ministers, two of whom are members of the prestigious cabinet committee on security.

Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, who addressed the women’s conference program in Varanasi on Wednesday, tweeted the keynote of the speech late Wednesday night and prominently highlighted the involvement of women in the current government

The minister tweeted, “I told the audience that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is the first government after Independence to have six women Cabinet Ministers with two of them as members of the Cabinet Committee on Security. Jawaharlal Nehru’s first Cabinet (1952-57) had only one woman – Rajkumari Amrit Kaur as a Cabinet Minister.

“Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri continued with D.r Sushila Nayyar as a Cabinet Minister (1964-66). Indira Gandhi also continued with her as a Cabinet Minister (1966-67),” she said in another tweet

The BJP leader said that during Indira Gandhi’s tenure as the Prime Minister from 1967-71, 1971-1977 and again during 1980-84, not a single woman was appointed as a Cabinet Minister.

She said Rajiv Gandhi’s Cabinet (1984-89) had only one woman (Mohsina Kidwai) as a Cabinet Minister.

The six womens who plays important role in Modi government are, Sushma Swaraj (Minister Of External Affairs), Nirmala Sitharaman (Defence Minister), both of them are also the part of cabinet committee on security. Maneka Gandhi (Minister Of Women and Child Development), Harsimrat Kaur Badal (Food Processing Industry Portfolio), Smriti Irani (Minister of Textiles and Uma Bharti (Minister Of Water and Sanitation).
