Take Care Of WB, Its Debt Almost Equal To Sri Lanka: BJP To Mamata

Mumbai: Reacting to Mamata Banerjee’s “India’s financial condition worse than Sri Lanka” remark, BJP’s Sukanta Majumdar said, “she should take care of her state as its debt is almost equal to Sri Lanka.”

BJP West Bengal chief Sukanta Majumdar has said that Mamata Banerjee should take care of her state as its debt is almost equal to Sri Lanka, which has been reeling under its worst economic crisis.

“Sri Lanka is ruined; its total debt was Rs 6 lakh crore and West Bengal’s debt is Rs 5.62 lakh crore. Had West Bengal been a separate country, its condition would’ve been worse than Sri Lanka,” Majumdar said as per ANI.

Mamta Banerjee said on Monday that the economic condition of Sri Lanka is bad but the condition of India is worse than Sri Lanka. He further said that the fuel prices in the country have been hiked.

“The central government should call all political parties to discuss the economic crisis in our country instead of using CBI and ED,” she said.

Indian economy’s comparison with that of Sri Lanka did not go down well with the BJP which hit back at the duo with some key numbers. BJP spokesperson Sanju Verma pointed out that Sri Lanka’s total economy is $80 billion, while India’s is about $3 trillion. Sri Lanka has $2 billion of forex reserves, while India has $618 billion (fourth highest in the world), she said.

“Sri Lanka’s annual Exports are $15 billion, while India’s $418 billion. Sri Lanka’s Food Inflation is 32%, while India’s is 5.85%. Sanjay Raut should zip it,” she said in a tweet on Tuesday.
