Tamil Nadu Announces Complete Lockdown On Sunday Amid COVID-19 Surge

Mumbai: The Tamil Nadu government has ordered a complete lockdown in the state on January 23 (Sunday), amid rising cases of COVID-19. The government announced that only essential services would be allowed to function during the lockdown.

Meanwhile, there is a night curfew from 10 pm to 5 am on all days.

According to the latest health bulletin data, 28,561 new cases and 39 deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu in the last 24 hours.

The state’s active tally has touched 1,79,205, while the total cases have crossed the 30 lakh mark.

Capital Chennai reported the highest number of fresh cases despite a decline with 7,520 infections, followed by Coimbatore at 3,390 and Chengalpet at 2,196.
