Tamil Nadu Govt Receives Over Rs 300 cr For COVID-19 Battle

Mumbai: The Tamil Nadu government said on Friday that it had received more than Rs 300 crore in cash and for the fight against coronavirus.

An official release said that government employees, corporate entities, individuals, philanthropic organizations and others have contributed Rs 306.42 crore for this purpose. On March 27, Chief Minister K Palaniswami made an appeal.

This includes Rs 110 crore donated by the state government employees, equivalent to their one day salary and one month’s salary of 124 AIADMK MLAs.

Apart from cash contributions, some people had donated medical equipment worth crores of rupees, besides distributing food to select areas for a few days.

Meanwhile, 161 new coronavirus cases were reported as of 9:00 AM on May 01 in Tamil Nadu, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This brings the total reported cases of coronavirus in Tamil Nadu to 2,323. Among the total people infected as on date, 1,258 have recovered and 27 have passed away.
