Tamil Nadu: Heavy Too Heavy Rainfall Predicted In Next Two Days, Schools, Colleges To Remain Close

Mumbai: Heavy rains have continued in the state of Tamil Nadu for the last two days, as authorities issued a red alert for five districts on Sunday, even predicting more rains in the next two days, the state capital Chennai It was also for, it has been raining heavily since morning.

Amid the continuous spell of rain, the Chennai district administration on Monday declared a holiday for schools and colleges. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Agency (TNSDMA) announced that schools in Chengalpet, Thiruvallur, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, and Cuddalore will also remain closed. Schools in Puducherry, too, will be shut on Monday.

Apart from Chennai, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is forecasting extremely heavy rainfall at Thiruvallur, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram and Tirunelveli, a city-based regional center.

Additionally, 176 relief centers have been set up across the city and 109 boats have been arranged to evacuate people should a need arise. Community kitchens have also been set up to prepare food for the needy.
