Mumbai: The BCCI today announced the 15-member Team India squad for T20 World Cup 2022. Rohit Sharma will be captaining India in a major ICC tournament for the first time.
Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the playing XI as KL Rahul’s deputy. Former India captain Virat Kohli, who rediscovered his form with the first T20I ton against Afghanistan, will be the backbone of the team along with Suryakumar Yadav.
Hardik Pandya has been included in the all-rounder’s squad by Axar Patel after the unfortunate injury of Ravindra Jadeja during the Asia Cup.
Deepak Hooda has also retained his place in the team. It will be interesting to see how the Men in Blue uses the two wicketkeeper-batsmen, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik, in the upcoming tournament.
Pant had a poor time in the recently concluded Asia Cup and was picked ahead of Dinesh Karthik to provide more balance to the team as a left-handed batsman.
Meanwhile, Karthik didn’t have enough chance to prove his worth as a finisher and would be keen to play a bigger role in the T20 World Cup.
Spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal will play a vital role with their immense experience in the shortest format of the game. The Indian bowling lineup has received a big boost with the return of underperforming fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel in the Asia Cup.
Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who redeemed himself with a scintillating bowling performance against Afghanistan, will be India’s biggest threat with the new ball while young Arshdeep Singh will continue his death bowling exploits in Australia.
The team includes four reserves in the form of Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Chahar.
