Tejaswin Shankar Wins Bronze, India’s First Medal In High Jump In CWG History

Mumbai: Indian high jumper Tejaswin Shankar created history by becoming the first-ever Indian to win a medal in the high jump in Commonwealth Games (CWG).

The 23-year-old won the country’s first athletics medal in the men’s high jump event.

Shankar started with a successful jump of 2.10m in his first attempt. Shankar made a simple jump and easily overcame the 2.15m hurdle in his first attempt.

Shankar jumped 2.19 meters in a powerful fashion. In the game, Shankar had no trouble climbing the bar again, jumping 2.22m in his first attempt.

However, the Indian high jumper failed to cross the bar in his first attempt in the 2.25m hurdles and also in his second attempt. He decided to miss by 2.25m in his third attempt and went straight for 2.28m but failed to pass it.

With unsuccessful attempts, he had to be content with a bronze medal in Birmingham 2022.

Former world and CWG champion Donald Thomas of the Bahamas covered a distance of 2.22m with Tejaswin Shankar, but the Indian athlete earned the bronze for a low foul.
