Telangana Congress urges Rahul Gandhi to become Party Chief

Mumbai: The Telangana Congress unit has again urged Rahul Gandhi to take over as party chief.

According to Telangana Congress officials, on Sunday, the presidents of all the 33 District Congress Committees (DCCs) of the state unanimously passed a resolution urging Gandhi to become the AICC president.

The meeting was unanimously passed in the presence of all 33 DCC presidents and AICC Telangana in-charge and Member of Parliament Manikam Tagore, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee President N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Congress Legislature Party Bhatti Vikramark and other senior people.

Earlier, Congress units in Delhi and Chhattisgarh passed resolutions demanding that Rahul Gandhi be made party chief again. Rahul Gandhi, who took over as Congress President in 2017, resigned from the post after the party’s disastrous defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

After months of his resignation and tenure, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was elected as the Interim President of the Congress by the CWC. The Congress Party’s organizational elections in May 2021 were proposed by its Central Election Authority.

However, elections were postponed in view of the schedule of assembly elections to be held in five states this year. It was proposed by the CWC members that the party organizational elections should take place after the assembly elections.
