Tell Us What Work You Did In Last 11 Years?: Kharge To BJP
Mumbai: During a press conference in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the BJP for diverting attention from pressing issues by giving provocative speeches and spreading misinformation. With Maharashtra assembly elections scheduled for November 20, Kharge highlighted the need for a capable government to steer the state back onto the path of development, expressing confidence that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition will emerge victorious.
Kharge also pointed to conflicting messages within the BJP, referencing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s slogan, “Batenge toh katenge” (divided we perish), contrasted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan, “Ek hain toh safe hain” (we are safe if we are united). He questioned the inconsistency in BJP’s messaging, urging, “First you decide among yourselves whose slogan is to be followed – Yogi ji’s or Modi ji’s.”
Accusing the BJP of making “inciting speeches” and “lying to divert people’s attention from core issues,” Kharge noted that two influential leaders from Vidarbha have failed to prevent major investments from moving out of the region to Gujarat. Though he did not directly name them, his comments seemed aimed at Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, both prominent BJP figures from Nagpur.
Kharge called on the BJP to engage in a public debate with the Congress, inviting them to discuss their achievements over the past 11 years. “We will tell you about the work we have done in 55 years,” he asserted, highlighting the Congress’s long-standing contributions to the nation.
