Mumbai: After T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka when International cricket returned Pakistan later after 10 years Pakistan will host the first test on home soil, the country’s cricketing board confirmed that on Thursday

As Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Pakistan will play their World Test Championship (WTC) matches in Rawalpindi and Karachi.

The first match is to be played between 11-15 December in Pindi Cricket Stadium and the second test will be played between 19-23 December at National Stadium, Karachi.

Earlier, Sri Lanka was scheduled to play Tests in October and then return in December for white-ball cricket, but the matches were swapped by both cricketing boards to provide them with the opportunity to assess the situation before deciding the Test venues.

“This is fabulous news for Pakistan cricket and its reputation of being as safe and secure as any other country in the world. We are thankful to Sri Lanka Cricket for agreeing to send their team for the longer version of the game, which will contribute significantly in the PCB‘s efforts and drive for regular resumption of international cricket, and help in its endeavours of attracting new audiences and younger generation,” PCB Director, International Cricket Zakir Khan said in an official statement.

Pakistan lost T20I series which was played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, a few top players from the island nation refused to tour Pakistan citing security concerns.

The players who opted out were — Lasith Malinga, Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Janith Perera, Dhananjaya De Silva, Thisara Perera, Akila Dhananjaya, Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal, Dinesh Chandimal and Dimuth Karunaratne.

In 2009, the Sri Lankan team was on their way to Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore for a Test match with Pakistan, when terrorists fired indiscriminately at their bus. That attack left eight people dead and injured seven Sri Lankan players and staff.

Since then, international cricket had eluded Pakistan with no high-profile team visiting the country for a full-length tour.

Earlier this month, International Tennis Federation (ITF) had also announced that the upcoming Davis Cup tie between India and Pakistan would not be played in Pakistan, and the federation asked for the tie to be played at a neutral venue, citing security concerns.
