Thank You Kohli, Your Brand Of Cricket Will Be A Template To Follow: RCB

Mumbai: After BCCI announced that Rohit Sharma will replace Virat Kohli as Team India’s ODI captain, RCB thanked Kohli for leading the team through an “emphatic and aggressive era in white-ball cricket”.

In a heartfelt tweet, RCB wrote, “Thank you Captain Virat Kohli for leading Team India through an emphatic and aggressive era in white-ball cricket! Your brand of cricket will be a template for the future to follow.”

Rohit will now lead India in both the ODI and T20 format.

Earlier, Rohit was appointed the T20I captain, following which Kohli decided to step down from the T20I captaincy after the 2021 T20 World Cup. His first assignment as a permanent T20I captain came last month in a home series against New Zealand, which the Men in Blue won 3-0.

Since the resignation of Virat Kohli as the T20I captain, there was widespread speculation about the status of the ODI captaincy. While Kohli intended to relinquish leadership duties in the shortest format, the 50-over captaincy was in doubt as it would mean that white-ball cricket in India would have two different captains.

After this big announcement by BCCI, social media was flooded with reactions from every corner of the cricket fraternity. Kohli’s IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore paid tribute to him at the end of his tenure as ODI captain.

Kohli is statistically one of India’s most successful captains in the 50-over format. He led India in 95 ODIs, of which the Men in Blue won 65. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India participated in two ICC events in 50-over cricket, reaching the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy and making it to the semi-finals. 2019 ODI World Cup.

Kohli will continue to lead the team in Test cricket, but Rohit has replaced Ajinkya Rahane in red-ball cricket for the upcoming series against South Africa.

The ODI leg of the South African tour will be Rohit’s first as the full-time captain of the ODI team. The five-time IPL winning captain is expected to lead India in the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Kohli has also stepped down as RCB captain with the franchise set to have a new leader in 2022.
