Those Teaching Hindutva Were Hiding During Babri Demolition: Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: Speaking on the ongoing Azaan and Hanuman Chalisa controversy, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray said that those teaching him Hindutva were hiding in a “rat hole” when Babri Masjid was demolished.

Breaking his silence on the Hanuman Chalisa controversy, Thackeray said reading the chalisa at his home is not a problem, but ‘dadgiri’ will not be tolerated.

Thackeray said, “If you want to recite ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ at my house, then definitely come. But contact properly.”

“But if you want to go from ‘dadagiri’ (bullying), Balasaheb (late Shiv Sena founder and his father) taught us to break ‘dadagiri’,” he said at the launch of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) at the BEST headquarters.

The NCMC card will enable Mumbaikars to travel through BEST buses at present. Later, the same card can be used for travel for metro services, suburban trains, buses, cabs, auto-rickshaws and other utilities.

Thackeray said the Shiv Sena’s Hindutva is “gadadhari”, a reference to the mace-clad god Hanuman, while the Hindutva of the opponents is “ghantdhari”.

“Those who are teaching me Hindutva should ask themselves about their contribution to Hindutva. When Babri (mosque) was demolished (on 6th December 1992), you were hiding in a rat-net,” he said.

He said that your (BJP’s) government did not take the decision to build Ram temple in Ayodhya, but the Supreme Court paved the way for it.

“While constructing Ram temple too, you spread your hand in front of people. Then where is your Hindutva” he said.

“Shiv Sena’s Hindutva is ‘Gadadhari’ whereas your Hindutva is ‘Ghantadhari’. What do you mean when you say Shiv Sena has abandoned Hindutva? Is Hindutva a ‘dhotar’ (a garment worn by men which are tied around the waist) that is worn, draped and removed,” Thackeray asked?

Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana were arrested on Saturday after they were called to chant Hanuman Chalisa outside Thackeray’s private residence ‘Matoshree’ in Mumbai, which was opposed by Shiv Sainiks.

The couple, who are now in jail, later withdrew their phones citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mumbai for an event. The police registered an FIR against him on charges of sedition and spreading enmity among other sections.
