Those With ‘Slave Mentality’ Mock Religion: PM Modi On Criticism Of Khumbh Mela

Mumbai: Targeting the opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused certain political leaders of fostering a “slave mentality” by mocking religion and dividing society with the alleged support of foreign powers to weaken the nation and its faith.

Modi made these remarks while laying the foundation stone for the Bageshwar Dham Medical and Science Research Institute in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district. His statement comes in response to criticism from the opposition regarding the recent stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

“Nowadays, we observe that there is a section of leaders who mock religion, ridicule it, and are engaged in dividing people. Often, foreign powers also seem to support these individuals in their attempts to weaken the nation and its faith,” Modi said. He further stated, “These people, who harbor hatred toward Hindu beliefs, have existed for centuries in one guise or another. They attack our beliefs, temples, saintly culture, and principles. They insult our festivals, traditions, and customs.”

Addressing the ongoing discussions about the Maha Kumbh, Modi praised the efforts of sanitation workers and police personnel for their dedicated service. “This is the great Kumbh of unity where thousands of doctors and volunteers work with dedication and the spirit of service. People visiting the great Kumbh appreciate these efforts,” he said.

Modi also highlighted the lesser-known social service initiatives at the Maha Kumbh, including the Netra Maha Kumbh, a nationwide eye-care program. “In this Netra Maha Kumbh, pilgrims from every corner of the country, especially poor families, are getting their eyes tested for free. Over 2 lakh people have undergone eye examinations so far, with nearly 1.5 lakh receiving free medicines and spectacles,” he added.

The newly inaugurated Bageshwar Dham Medical and Science Research Institute, spanning 10 acres with an estimated cost of over Rs 200 crore, will house a 100-bed facility offering free treatment to underprivileged cancer patients. Bageshwar Dham chief priest Dhirendra Shastri was present at the event.

Praising Shastri’s efforts, Modi remarked, “My younger brother, Dhirendra Shastri ji, has been awakening people across the country with the mantra of unity. Now, he has taken yet another resolve in the interest of society and humanity by establishing this cancer institute.”

Modi also emphasized his government’s commitment to fighting cancer, announcing that cancer daycare centers would be opened in all districts across the country over the next three years.

The event showcased Modi’s dual emphasis on religious unity and healthcare advancement, as he continues to strengthen his government’s vision of “Ek Bharat, Shreshta Bharat.”
