To Prevent Pegasus Attack, Whatsapp Asks Users To Install The Latest Version Of App
Mumbai: After online messaging WhatsApp messenger was hit by a Spyware scandal that is affecting several mobile phones, Whatsapp has informed the user to install the latest version of the App.
Facebook-owned messaging service listed two precautionary measures in a message to users that it believed were affected by sophisticated Pegasus spyware. “How to be safe: Always use the latest version of WhatsApp and keep your mobile operating system updated to get the latest security protection.”
The message also pointed out that when WhatsApp had previously prevented an “advanced cyber actors” from exploiting their video-calling service to install spyware on certain mobile phones, there was a possibility that the device in question could be affected.
The message was sent to victims of the spyware scam on Tuesday before the NSO, a cyber litigation company against Facebook for more than $ 75,000 in compensation. It alleges that the Israeli firm illegally used WhatsApp servers to sneak phone pegasus to 1,400 users from 20 countries.
In India, target users allegedly included journalists, activists, lawyers, and senior government officials. Bela Bhatia, an activist working in Chhattisgarh, hinted at a deep conspiracy behind the scam.
He told NDTV, “The person who called me told me how I was targeted, stating that ‘we can say clearly and clearly that your own government has done this. ”
