Tourists’ Clothes Taken By Police As They Defy Bathing Ban At Waterfall In Karnataka
Mumbai: The Karnataka Police devised an innovative punishment for tourists who defied a ban on bathing in the overflowing Charmadi Falls during the monsoon season. Ignoring multiple warning signs, a group of tourists entered the waterfall in Mudigere, Chikmagalur, only to find their clothes confiscated by the police.
The tourists had left their clothes at the bank and entered the restricted area of the waterfall. Noticing the men climbing the rocks, the Chikmagalur division police officers picked up their discarded garments and walked away. A video capturing the men pleading with the police to return their clothes has since gone viral, eliciting amused responses from social media users.
According to News18, the police eventually returned the clothes after issuing a stern warning and providing the tourists with safety instructions. The tourists were let off with caution about the dangers of entering the waterfall during the rainy season.
The footage of the police officers walking away with the tourists’ clothes has received widespread attention and praise. Social media users commended the police for their unique approach. Comments ranged from “Excellent decision!” to suggestions that this “superb” solution should be implemented nationwide.
“This is called doing nothing but done enough,” wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).
“Although it might not be legal, but what can police do if people don’t understand and police can’t watch each corner, it’s too big a country,” noted X user Ashish Jain.

Karnataka banned tourist entry to waterfalls on July 1 due to the increased risk posed by the rainy season. The incident at Charmadi Falls highlights both the dangers of ignoring safety warnings and the police’s creative methods to enforce regulations.
