Trains Set On Fire In Bihar, Uttar Pradesh Amid Protests Against Agnipath Scheme

Mumbai: At least two coaches of a passenger train were set on fire at Mohiuddinagar Station in Bihar’s Samastipur amid protests against the Agnipath scheme. Protesters also set a train on fire at Luckeesarai Junction.

The agitators vandalised Lakhminia Railway Station and blocked railway tracks.

Meanwhile, protesters vandalized station property at UP’s Ballia railway station and set an empty train on fire.

Efforts are on to control the fire that broke out in the train at Secunderabad railway station in Telangana.

“Coaches of 3 running trains in Eastern Central Railway plus one empty rake in Kulharia (ECR) (Bihar), one stabled coach in washing line in Ballia (UP). This is damage to rolling stocks so far. Damages to fixed assets difficult to be assessed & compiled so early,” the Railway Ministry was quoted as saying by ANI.

An empty train was set on fire in UP’s Ballia in protest against the Agneepath scheme.

The protesters gathered at the Veer Lorke Stadium and then marched to the Ballia railway station and raised slogans like ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Take back the Agneepath’.

They also allegedly pelted stones near the railway godown and targeted private shops on the railway station platform. According to PTI, the police lathi-charged the protesters to disperse them.

“After the gathering at Ballia railway station and stadium, senior police officers and the district magistrate spoke to the students and made them disperse. Following which, some students tried to break window panes and set fire to an empty deserted train. Attempts of dousing underway; patrolling at different areas underway,” Superintendent RK Nayyar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
