Mumbai: India’s 26-year-old table tennis player Manika Batra advanced to the second round of the women’s singles event at the Tokyo Olympics.
Manika defeated Great Britain’s Tin-Tin Ho in straight games (11-7, 11-6, 12-10, 11-9) in 30 minutes.
Experienced Manika’s big forehand never gave Tin-Tin Ho a chance to make a comeback in the match.
Manika’s win will be a morale booster as she failed to qualify for the next round in the mixed doubles event after suffering a heavy 0-4 defeat against the Chinese Taipei team of Yun Ju Lin and Cheng I Ching.
Lin and Cheng of the Chinese Taipei annihilated the Indian duo in just 24 minutes in the best of seven games contest.
