Uddhav Thackeray Opens Up About Split With BJP, Prospects Of Future Alliance

Mumbai: Last year it was a huge political drama in Maharashtra as Shiv Sena broke their 25-30 years alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party over CM post, later on, Sena tied up with NCP, Congress and formed Maha Aghadi Vikas for Maharashtra and Uddhav Thackeray become the first member of Thackeray family to hold CM post.
Well speaking on the controversies with BJP, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, said that the split with decades-old ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was a sad decision and that the Shiv Sena stood like a mountain for the BJP during the crisis.

In an interview with Shiv Sena mouthpiece, Saamna Thackeray said, “I am honestly saying that it was not a game. We were with the BJP from the past 25-30 years and it was not any sort of political compulsion. We have a relationship with Pramod ji (Pramod Mahajan), Nitin Ji (Nitin Gadkari), Gopinath ji (Gopinath Munde) and besides them Atal ji (Atal Bihari Vajpayee). I was anguished while breaking up with them (BJP). This has hurt me a lot…During the time of crisis, our party stood like a mountain for them…there were attacks on Hindutva, we took it upon ourselves.. Why could not they stay united with the Shiv Sena?”

Asked if there was any possibility of forming an alliance with the BJP in the future, Thackeray avoided giving a straight answer and said: “Everything I have done so far has been done with an open heart.”

The Maharashtra Chief Minister also said that it is not only the Shiv Sena that has suffered losses due to the alliance but also the BJP, whose tilt in the 2014 assembly elections has reduced to less than 104 in 2019.

The BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 105 seats in the last Maharashtra assembly election, while the Shiv Sena won 56 seats in the 288-member state assembly.
