Union Budget: Rs 4.78 Lakh Crore Allocated For Defence

Mumbai: The defence budget including outlay for payment of pension was increased to Rs 4.78 lakh crore for 2021-22 as against Rs 4.71 lakh crore in the previous year.

The allocation in the Union Budget for the Armed Forces, excluding pension outflow, is Rs 3.62 lakh crore.

Out of the total allocation, as per the Union Budget presented in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Rs 1.35 lakh crore has been earmarked for capital outlay for the purchase of new weapons, aircraft, warships and other military hardware.

The capital outlay was Rs 1.13 lakh crore in the defence budget 2020-21.

The total revenue consideration, which includes payment of salaries and expenditure on maintenance of establishments, is estimated at Rs 3.37 lakh crore.

The total revenue for the payment of pension included Rs 1.15 lakh crore cautiously.
