Union Cabinet Passes Citizenship Amendment Bill

Mumbai: The Union Cabinet has cleared the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Last week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held talks with leaders of political parties, student bodies, and civic organizations in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya regarding the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh whipped against the absence and asked party MPs to be present when Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the bill in Parliament.

The minister described the Bill as a step of Article 370 of the Centre. Rejecting the opposition’s criticism of the Citizenship Bill, which seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan if they face religious persecution there, Singh said that the BJP has always held the country and Has worked to unify his people.
