Union Govt Sanctions Permanent Commission to All Women Officers in Indian Army

Mumbai: In a major breakthrough, the Union Defense Ministry on Thursday issued a formal approval letter to give permanent commission to women officers in the Indian Army, after the Supreme Court had given a month’s time to the Centre regarding the permanent commission to all serving SSC women officers.

The government’s move paves the way for empowering women officers in all the 10 streams of the army, which play a big role in the organization.

The order calls for the permanent appointment of women officers of the Permanent Service Commission (SSC) in all the ten streams of the Indian Army, in addition to the existing sections of Judge and Advocate General (JAG) and Army Educational Corps (AEC). 

Their Selection Board will be scheduled as soon as all affected SSC women officers exercise their option and complete requisite documentation, the statement read.

Earlier this month, a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud of India gave the Center a month to implement its decision stating that all SSC women officers in the army should be given a permanent commission. must be given.
