University Of Hyderabad To Announce Modified Academic Schedule After May 7

Mumbai: The University of Hyderabad (UOH) has said that it will finalize the revised academic calendar, which includes pending end-semester exams and entrance exams to admit new students to various programmes after May 7 when the extended lockdown announced by the Telangana government ends.

As a central university, which has students from across the country, most of which have moved back to their homes, the university is conscious of the fact that the possibility of a nationwide lockout before any resumption of the academic schedule must be preceded by the lifting of the lockdown across the country so that students can travel back to Hyderabad, the University said in a release.

In view of the UGC guidelines released yesterday on exams and academic calendars in universities affected by the COVID-19 epidemic and subsequent lockdown, the university reported that its internal committees appointed for this purpose prepared a priority plan for research students is. Students working in experimental laboratories and graduate batches of master’s.

“The plan is to prevent the withdrawal of students and to make the full semester’s work in a phased manner sympathetic to the current status of the students, even if we do not compromise the university’s high academic standards,” the release said.

Earlier, considering the unequal access to the Internet and other problems raised by students, the university decided not to insist on online classes and to provide only online educational support. The university had also upgraded the annual summer vacation for faculty members, which will now run until 21 May.

The university had already decided to extend the deadline for research students pursuing MPhil and PhD degrees. The deadline for submission of applications for new admissions for all programs has been extended to 22 May. A technical sub-group of the university is also studying the possibility of conducting its nationwide entrance exam this year.

The university has clarified that its effort will be to align its contingency plans with the spirit of the UGC Guidelines, as outlined by the Commission in Advisor in Nature. A final decision will be taken keeping in mind the national as well as local contexts and the best interests of the students.
